Venue Preview: LAX The Nightclub at The Luxor Hotel (Las Vegas, NV)

When the MGM Mirage Company announced that they would be spending about $300 Million dollars renovating the Luxor Resort & Casino (it's the black pyramid with the beam of light aimed up at the stars), we didn't expect to see results so soon. How wrong we were. On Labor Day Weekend the club formerly known as RA will be reopening after extensive renovations as LAX. With Pure Management at the helm, you can expect LAX to be a knockout:

LAX will rise to new heights in the nightclub industry as celebrity investors Christina Aguilera and DJ AM team up with the city’s most dynamic entertainment company creating the hottest nightclub to land in Sin City.

“LAX is going to blow people away with its sheer beauty and design,” said Robert Frey, Managing Partner of Pure Management Group. “When guests come to LAX, they are going to be treated to a nightclub experience unlike any other and one that leaves a lasting impression.”

On Friday, August 31st, Britney Spears will be at LAX to host the nightclub's opening night party. DJ AM will be providing the music.

Venue Review: Body English (at The Hard Rock) (Las Vegas, NV)

Body English is all about rock star-chic--black mirrored walls, Baccarat crystal chandeliers, leather booths, and of course a a large dance floor. Body English has been the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino's nightclub for years now, and it's still as hot as ever.

Frommer's
likes Body English on account of its "clash of Anne Rice and Cher Gothic-themed whacky decadence, with fabrics on top of wood on top of mirrors, not to mention the sort of layout that allows for intimate corners and voyeuristic balcony viewing of the dance floor..."

Vegas.com says that "The elegant decor makes you feel as if you're going to an exclusive, secret hideaway as you descend a nondescript staircase and head to the club, located underneath The Joint."

AOL City Guide offers up some tips on getting in: "...[If] feeling like money is important to you, you'll have to spend some for the privilege; the club makes no secret of catering to those who opt for its bottle service, which begins at $300 a bottle for a party of four. It is, however, one of the very best places in town to enjoy a bottle, with attentive servers who know how to sell the rock-star lifestyle."

Venue Review: Rehab (The Pool at The Hard Rock)

Every Sunday, the pool at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino morphs into Rehab, a wild, outdoor, anything goes party not to be missed--if you can get in.

The San Francisco Chronicle assesses the scene like this:

It's an old fraternity legend that the best way to get over a hangover is to start drinking again.

This also is the motto of the weekly Rehab party at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. The shindig, held from noon to 7 p.m. Sundays, turns the hotel's celebrated pool area into a bathing-suit-infested dance club. There, you'll find live music, swim-up blackjack and strangers making out in the open

And, oh yeah, there's drinking.

Exhibit A: The tall, puffy kid who responded to a simple "Where'd you get that drink?" with a prolonged, ground-shaking and putrid belch.

Exhibit B: The squat, barrel-chested fellow who got in the face of yours truly because I was wearing linen pants (who knew?).

Exhibit C: The love-fest under a waterfall that became so XXX-rated, security had to intervene and suggest that the trio find their swimwear and get a room.

In any other environment, any one of these scenes likely would spark a beeline for the exit and alternate plans. But in Las Vegas, where ridiculousness is the norm, Rehab is a fiesta of absurdity where revelers recovering from entire weekends of debauchery come for one final hurrah.

Clearly, this is a party not to be missed.

Venue Review: Bare (The pool at The Mirage) (Las Vegas, NV)

Bare is the Mirages pool for grown-ups. You can expect a scene, especially when the weather is nice. Bare offers all amenities you'd expect at a full-service hotel pool:

The DJ-spun music mix sets a lively mood as guests enjoy European-style sun bathing secluded by towering palms.

Two luxury dipping pools create a temptingly cool respite from the hot Vegas sun. Private Daybeds and Boat Beds provide a luxurious option while poolside chaise lounges put guests in the middle of the action. A menu offers sumptuous specialty food items and cocktail service is available throughout the pool area. For those choosing to rent a Daybed or Boat Bed, European-style bottle service is offered and some titillating twists: an exclusive pitcher service provides a unique alternative to standard bottle service with pre-mixed cocktails such as Mojitos, Bloody Marys and Sangria served in specially made pitchers guaranteed to keep your beverages ice cold.

Of course you can expect VIP service:

The attentive staff mix with the clientele, offering complimentary services to every guest including: chilled cucumbers to soothe the eyes; iced towels, rolled and chilled in flavored water; exotic frozen fruit, skewered for easy snacking; icy popsicles; mini fruit smoothies, served in individual shot glasses; and Evian misting bottles, super-chilled and ready to spritz.

AOL Cityguide adds this:

The long rectangular pool, surrounded by private daybeds, offers a secluded sanctuary for what is politely described as European sunbathing, better known to the rest of us as topless

Venue Review: Tryst Nightclub - (Las Vegas, NV)

Though Tryst Nightclub checks in at over 12,000 square feet, the space feels small and intimate. There are nooks and booths and of course, dim lighting. Quiet elegance aside, both big draws at Tryst involve water, lots of it.

As you emerge from the hall, prepare to have your breath taken away, as you find yourself immediately captivated by the club's centerpiece - a 94-foot waterfall, rising above Tryst's private oasis. (Vegas.com)

And then there is the indoor-outdoor dance floor, which extends fifteen feet out, over Wynn's man-made lagoon. In addition to the main dance floor there is a more relaxed lounge near the entrance, seating and beds outdoors, and a VIP champagne bar.

Check JoonBug for more information about Tryst Nightclub.

Venue Review: Jet Nightclub (at The Mirage) (Las Vegas, NV)

Jet, located at the Mirage, is a slick, modern nightclub, featuring three distinct rooms. Vegas.com has the details on the setup:

Guests are welcomed into this den of debauchery via an angular, bending hall, lit by votive candles that rest on the walls' inset shelves. The hall opens into the always-packed main room, a massive rectangular area whose sunken-in dance floor is flanked by two long bars.
...
JET's other rooms each have their own personalities. The house room is decorated in subtle earth tones, with cushioned walls, hardwood floors and decorative draperies. The DJ booth is centered against a wall on one side of the room, allowing DJs to stay eye-level with clubbers, truly providing an interactive experience. To further that vibe, the club often features a live percussionist in this intimate, typically less-crowded room.

Located on the other side of the club, the rock room features mash-ups, '80s dance music and more. Slightly larger than the house room, this area features subdued, amber lighting, red-tiled columns and bar accents, and dancer platforms behind the VIP seats that line the walls.

Like most popular Vegas nightclubs, getting into Jet can be difficult, so call ahead, and make plans to buy some bottles to guarantee entry.

Venue Review: Moon Nightclub (Las Vegas)

The Palms, with Rain and Ghostbar, had already cemented its reputation as one of the premier nightspots in Vegas, if not the world. And then they went and opened the Playboy Fantasy Tower, topped by Moon, a nightclub that literally tears the roof off the building.

Floor-to-ceiling windows offer a dramatic view of the Las Vegas lights, and overhead a retractable roof opens to reveal an amazing view of the desert sky and stars. (AOL CityGuide)

Vegas.com has loads of details:

Located on the 53rd floor of the Fantasy Tower, Moon creates a dramatic, surreal environment for discerning party-goers. From the color-changing, glass-tile floor to the majestic, floor-to-ceiling windows that provide unrivaled views of Sin City, every aspect of this boutique nightclub begs for attention.

A space-age theme pervades this 12,500-square-foot venue. Imagine a nightclub stationed on the moon -- all steel and glass with white and silver adornments. Cocktail servers and dancers dress in short, tight, metallic silver uniforms with black go-go boots. Lasers and space imagery fill the air and walls above the main dance floor.

Venue Review - Playboy Club at the Palms - casino / lounge / club - Las Vegas

Playboy Club at the Palms
4321 W Flamingo Rd
Las Vegas, NV 89119
(702) 942-7777

Atop the new, multi-million dollar Fantasy Tower at the Palms Casino sits the king of all rabbits. Earlier this month a giant-size Playboy Rabbit Head was emblazoned on the side of the tower facing the Las Vegas Strip, declaring there’s a new bunny in casino town.

This modern interpretation of the iconic Playboy Club introduces a complete integration of lounging and gaming. The main room features two gaming pits with blackjack, roulette and Playboy slots glimmering from Baccarat crystal chandeliers. Playmates in both nostalgic and modern versions of the rabbit costume serve drinks from the shimmering Diamond Bar while a wallpaper collage featuring every centerfold from the last 25 years grace the interior. As if that wasn’t enough for sensory overload, 60 plasma screen TVs entertain guests with opulent footage of Playboy beauties.

Further inside is the Playboy Boutique laded with Playboy products and co-branded Palms merchandise created exclusively for this location, which includes everything from beauty line products to high-end jewelry, accessories, and lifestyle products for both men and women. Beyond the Playboy Boutique there lies the centerpiece; a two-story Hugh Hefner Sky Villa featuring a replica of Hugh Hefner's signature round, rotating bed and an extensive collection of artwork selected by Hefner himself.

Venue Review: Tao Las Vegas - Club - Restaurant - Las Vegas

Tao Las Vegas at the Venetian
3355 Las Vegas Blvd S
Las Vegas, NV 89109
(702) 388-8338
www.taolasvegas.com

What do you get when you clean out 42,000 square feet of The Venetian Hotel in Vegas with plenty of New York gaudiness, a 20-foot tall Buddha, and a 10,000-square-foot nightclub? An Asian themed Tao Nightclub in the middle of Sin City.

Although some may call it exoticism, Tao’s Asian mystique is played up in this Midwestern city sporting an opium pipe wall, a 9,000-pound Quan Yin statue and 200 Buddhist monk statues. But that doesn’t stop superstar DJs dropping in unannounced to spin a set or two. These DJs in turn attract A-listers, who in turn perpetuate a world wide reputation for Tao Nightclub as being the place for jet-setting party people.

Voodoo Lounge (@ The Rio)

Las Vegas, NV 89103

While Voodoo Lounge atop The Rio Hotel & Casino offers some of the best views Las Vegas, it’s refreshingly down to earth.  Voodoo is decorated in dark colors, tribal etchings, and the kitchen offers tasty fusion dishes with a focus on seafood and French Creole influences.  A fairly relaxed dress code helps keep things loose & comfortable, while both DJs and live bands keep the energy high.  One of the best attractions here is the bar with bartenders mixing up potent inventive cocktails with a lot of pizzazz.

Venue Review: Peppermill Inn - Las Vegas

Peppermill  Inn
2985 Las Vegas Blvd S
Las Vegas, NV 89109

The Peppermill is a bona fide Las Vegas institution.  This isn’t an ultra swanky lounge, there isn’t a dance floor, and if you see some of the world’s finest DJs they're likely to be seen having a plate of pancakes after a gig here.  Walking in, you feel like you’ve just turned back the clock.  The Peppermill has remained fairly the same since the 70s.  It’s open 24/7, and the kitchen offers up Texas-sized comfort food, while the lounge has a surprising intimacy with no tangible meat market vibe.  Good kitschy fun.

Venue Review: Red Square (at Mandalay Bay) - Las Vegas

Red Square (at Mandalay Bay)
3950 Las Vegas Blvd S
Las Vegas, NV 89119
(702) 632-7777

It wasn’t really that long ago that the Soviet Union fell, but Mandalay Bay brings back more than a few touches of Soviet Moscow charm to the strip.  Reflecting the former USSR, a decapitated statue of Lenin greets guests (the head rests in the bottom of the vodka freezer).  Red Square is loaded with Soviet propaganda on the walls to add cold-war kitsch, and the menu is pretty tasty, but the main draw is 100 different varieties of vodka.  That’s right – 100.

Here’s what Citysearch and Digital City had to say about Red Square.

Venue Review: I-Bar Ultra Lounge (at the Rio) - Las Vegas

I-Bar Ultra Lounge (at the Rio)
3700 W. Flamingo Road
Las Vegas, NV 89103
(702) 777-6869

The Rio Hotel & Casino’s Ipanema Lounge had received a face lift into I-Bar; making it into one of the best ultra-lounges on the strip.  Their inventive cocktail menu is deceptively strong.  For the better part of the day, Vegas Rat Pack standards fill the place, but as the night wears on, the music shifts to house and electronica.

Here’s what Citysearch and Digital City thought about I-Bar.

Venue review: Rumjungle (at Mandalay Bay) - Las Vegas

Rumjungle (at Mandalay Bay)
3950 Las Vegas Blvd, S
Las Vegas, NV 89119
(702) 632-7777

Rumjungle is one of the best clubs in Vegas for people watching. The dance floor is always packed with the trendiest and the most glamorous, and getting a seat at the bar can be quite a while. The signature rum drinks are worth the wait, though. There is a palpable air of exclusivity here, and a night here means some hefty wallet damage.

Here's what Citysearch and Digital City had to say about Rumjungle.

Venue Review: Firefly - Las Vegas

Firefly
3900 Paradise Rd (at Corporate Dr)
Las Vegas, NV 89109
(702) 369-3971
website

The attention to atmosphere at Firefly is extensive and it offers a lush Spanish bistro for Vegas
nightlife denizens looking for something different than the usual uber-clubs and ultra-lounges. The
energy may be pretty high with live rock music, but the décor and the menu are almost classical. The
tapas appetizers are complimented by a well stocked bar and a respectable wine list. The main menu manages to be spicy without being incendiary.

Venue Review: Tangerine (at Treasure Island) - Las Vegas

TANGERINE (at Treasure Island)
3300 Las Vegas Blvd S (at Buccaneer Blvd)
Las Vegas, NV 89109
(702) 894-7111

Treasure Island’s Tangerine is a very sexy club with an outdoor deck as well as lots of action including burlesque shows in the main room. However this is more than a night club with its tropical theme extending into the daytime with Caribbean steel drum music and a decidedly more relaxed and laid back atmosphere.

For more information, here's what Citysearch and Digital City thought about Tangerine.

Venue Review: Tabu (at the MGM Grand) - Las Vegas

Tabu (at the MGM Grand)
3799 Las Vegas Blvd S
Las Vegas, NV 89109
(702) 891-7254

Tabu may be more of a lounge than a dance club, but it has resident and guest DJs spinning for your entertainment. In this city (or in any other for that matter) it’s refreshing to find a lounge where you can actually have a conversation. The major draw here is Tabu’s attentive service and elegance along with innovative touches like tables that not only have images projected on them, but are interactive as well. For those with deep pockets, bottle service here means a personal hostess, a bottle resting in a block of ice, and all the mixers.

Venue Review: Studio 54 (at the MGM Grand) - Las Vegas

STUDIO 54 (at the MGM Grand)
3799 Las Vegas Blvd S
Las Vegas, NV 89109
(702) 891-7254

New York City’s Studio 54 is the stuff legends are made of, and the list of people who have been here include fashion moguls, movie stars, rock stars, and other celebs. It would be easy to dismiss the MGM Grand’s Studio 54 as little more than a tribute to history, but this is one Hell of a club with four floors, each with its own expansive dance floor, DJ, and bar.

Here's what Digital City and Citysearch had to say about Studio 54.

Venue Review: Rain (at the Palms) - Las Vegas

RAIN (at the Palms)
4321 W Flamingo Rd (at Arville St)
Las Vegas, NV 89103-3903
(702) 942-6832

Rain tries hard to provide Vegas locals and tourists with the uber-club experience, but with all the glitz & showmanship Sin City can offer. While Rain has VIP areas for the bottle service set, and they constantly draws hot artists & DJs, people are drawn to the extravagant décor, pyrotechnics, and lighting you couldn’t find anywhere else.

Here's what Citysearch and Digital City thought about Rain.

Venue Review: Oba (House of Blues at Mandalay Bay) - Las Vegas

OBA (House of Blues at Mandalay Bay)
3950 Las Vegas Blvd S
Las Vegas, NV
(702) 221-2583

The House of Blues draws some of the best live acts in the world, and Oba is the best spot in the joint to see them. Oba is actually the VIP lounge to the House of Blues, private booths, and exclusive VVIP elevator access are just some of the things you can expect along with elite DJs. Yeah this is a pretty plush lounge, but to get the whole magilla of the Oba concert experience,

Here's what Digital City had to say about Oba.

Venue Review: Ghost Bar (at the Palms) - Las Vegas

GHOST BAR (at the Palms)
4321 W Flamingo Rd (at Arville St)
Las Vegas, NV 89103
(702) 938-2666

The ultra mod Ghost Bar is pretty swanky, and hopefully patrons won’t have too much of a fear of heights. When you’re sipping a martini, that normally doesn’t come into play, but when you’re 55 floors up, it’s a tad bit different than the pub in the hotel lobby. The décor is pretty futuristic, but then again the night time views of the Vegas skyline is pretty impressive eye candy.

Here's what Digital City and Citysearch had to say about Ghost Bar.

Venue Review: Caramel Bar (at the Bellagio) - Las Vegas

CARAMEL BAR (at the Bellagio)
3600 Las Vegas Blvd (at East Harmon Ave)
Las Vegas, NV 89109
(702) 693-8300
website

Certainly The Bellagio offers some of the best attractions in Vegas and the Caramel Bar is right up there at the top. The fresh cut flowers, buttery-soft leather couches and the Venetian marble lends subtle elegance to what you’d expect from your favorite neighborhood watering hole. The crowds at Caramel are not what you’d find at your average uber-club, but hey – this is Vegas. The drinks are most definitely a cut above than those you’re gonna get on the casino floor, and some of them are deceptively strong, like the Tiramisu.

Here's what Citysearch and Digital City thought about the Caramel Bar.
