Venue Review: Ecco Ultra Lounge (LA - Los Angeles)

Tokio in Los Angeles has under gone quite a metamorphosis recently. They have now become “Ecco Ultra Lounge.” In fact, the lounge is now a first of its kind. (from the press release)

“Tokio Los Angeles, LLC is proud to announce its transformation into Hollywood’s first and only eco-friendly lounge… Ecco will be the nation’s first eco-friendly certified nightlife venue.”

Some may ask, “What can a venue do to become “eco friendly certified?” You’re not alone, as we wondered that ourselves. Here are some of the highlights.

-Multi-colored, energy-efficient, state-of-the-art LED lighting system
-Power supplied by LA Department of Water & Power's Green Power
-Superior Organic cuisine and liquors
-Cold & Heat Insulation, saving 20% of standard energy
-Energy efficient recycled steel air pressure toilets and waterless urinals
-Free valet for hybrid vehicles

The changing of this club to an “eco friendly certified” venue is such a huge accomplishment, that Discovery Channel is even doing a documentary on the space.

“Recognizing the eco-friendly milestone Ecco will establish in the nightlife industry, Discovery Channel (Planet Green) will be featuring the full transformation on its show Alter Eco, hosted by Entourage star Adrian Grenier”

Keep on the lookout for the opening night, as this lounge will be making the competition “green” with envy in no time.

Venue Review: Crimson & Opera (Los Angeles, CA)

Crimson and Opera, sister clubs under one roof, appeal to those with differing tastes.

Opera, with its notoriously difficult velvet rope is all Hollywood--think celebrities and signature cocktails like 'The Fat Lady Sings.'  Kim Kardashian was spotted there at the Grand Opening back in late July.

Taking a different approach is Crimson, a rock-and-roll bar and lounge. Expect python-skin walls and waitresses dressed up as Catholic School Girls. The signature drink? 'The Drunken Groupie,' of course.

Check JoonBug for more information about Crimson and Opera.

Venue Review: Bar Nineteen12 (at The Beverly Hills Hotel) Bar & Restaurant (Los Angeles)

Bar Nineteen12, which opens this month, is named for the year that the famed Beverly Hills Hotel opened. CitySearch has been by, and they surveyed the scene:

Inside, stylish hotel guests and A-listers lounge in luxury amid jewel-toned sofas and high-backed leather chairs. Palm-leaf fabrics frame an opulent onyx and mahogany bar, where patrons can sip classic martinis or unique, new-age cocktails. A Southern-style veranda--with space for both open and private seating--provides a birds-eye-view of the hotel's palatial grounds and historic pool.

If you think that Bar Nineteen12 will be a stodgy hotel bar, just take a look at the drink menu (courtesy of UrbanDaddy):

Alcohol is served up here in various summer-friendly forms: sorbets, popsicles and gummy candy-like "jelly shots" (apparently it's time to graduate from Jell-O shots). Try the Martini Popsicles, Mojito Sorbet or B-52 Jelly Shots. Or soak up some Cereal Milk martini, made to look like the milk at the bottom of your Fruit Loops (but which somehow tastes so much…better).

And if you're a high-roller, they've got you covered:

And bottle service brings a bartender right to your table to mix your drinks; it runs from $475 up to a heroic $23,000 for a 50-year-old Macallan. Or for a mere $1,912, you can combine a shot of the ancient Scotch with an Opus X cigar (an ode to good times, before smoking laws kick in this October).

Check JoonBug for more information about Bar Nineteen12.

Venue Review: Winston's - Bar / Lounge (LA - Los Angeles, California)

Step inside--after waiting beyond the Velet Rope on the weekend--and you'll swear Winston's belongs somewhere on the East Coast. There are exposed brick walls, dark wood abounds, and glowing light-bulb filaments hang from the ceiling. But, As LA.com notes, the similarities end there:

The crown molding and framed pictures of sailboats are a charming New England touch, but Winston's has totally nailed a NYC vibe, if New York bars were abuzz with agents, actors, screenwriters and the like.

If you're wondering just who has been stopping by lately, LA.com has those details as well:

It's owned by Andy Fiscella, an actor repped by Endeavor, and has investors including producer Beau Flynn and GQ editor Chris Huvane.

Lindsay Lohan has hung out here since leaving rehab. Travis Barker and Shanna Moalker have also made in a candle-lit nook.

Venue Review: Seven Grand - Bar (LA - Los Angeles, California)

We've been hearing a lot of good things about recently opened LA bar, Seven Grand.

First, some background on the owner, courtesy of gridskipper:

Cedd Moses, the nightlifer who created Los Angeles joints such as the Golden Gopher and Broadway Bar, has opened Seven Grand at the intersection of 7th Street and Grand Avenue.

Daily Candy LA has tantalizing details about the booze:

...lots of whiskey: 125 labels and 75 more on the way. Take advantage of the extra large, extra cold ice cubes in your Maker’s Mark, Booker’s, or 30-year-old Macallan. Or sip one of eighteen beers on tap...

For the uninitiated, the point of extra-large ice cubes is that they stay cooler, which means that they melt slowly. Translation: Your drink stays extra cold without getting watered down. Talk about win-win.

Head over to Joonbug for venue details.

Venue Review: Parc - Restaurant / Lounge (LA - Los Angeles, California)

Featuring upscale Asian-Fusion cooking, and a celebrity packed late night scene, Parc, is one of LA's hottest new restaurants. Located in the heart of Hollywood, Parc has managed to attract some of the city's brightest lights:

...chic fashionistas, Industry dudes and more big names including Paris Hilton, Justin Timberlake, Adam Brody, Ashlee Simpson and Ryan Phillippe. (LA.com)

If you come for dinner, you'll be able to sample a number of the dishes, as most are served tapas-style. A French-Asian fusion restaurant/late-night lounge, serving Spanish-style tapas, in Hollywood...confused yet? Don't be. Most dishes are excellent, the wine list is thorough, and the late night scene is not to be missed.

Venue Review: Xes - Club - Hollywood (LA)

Xes
1716 N Cahuenga Blvd
Hollywood, CA 90028
(323) 461-8190

Pronounced “excess,” Xes is “sex” spelled backwards, pretty clever, huh? Formerly the PaPaz, this mega-nightclub is decked out with sleek, red and black interior to accent tones of decadent desire. The walls are lined with mirrors and felt, poles erect from the dance floor, and porn star style bar tenders collectively do their best to get arousal out of their patrons.

DJs spin mostly hip-hop, crowds are usually dressed in best ‘bling bling’ fashion, and A-List celebs like Christina Aguilera are known to get down at Xes.

Venue Review: 626 Reserve - Restaurant / Lounge - Los Angeles (LA)

626 Reserve
626 S Spring St
Los Angeles, CA 90014
(213) 627-9800

Part gallery, mostly wine bar, 626 Reserve brings together art, cheese, and occasional live music to singles who like to discuss the finer points of wine and food.

Wining and dining takes a stylish approach in this downtown swank bar. Suede chairs, live lounge and jazz music, and even a fireplace are only part of the backdrop to this South African and Chilean eccentric themed hangout. Only here can you get your taste buds in a swirl from sipping Argentinian Malbec to Chilian Cabernet to California Zinfindel in one sitting.

Bog down that wine with 626 Reserve’s specialty dishes like the Maryland Crabcakes, big chunks of crab meat and a delightful sauce, to name one. Everything tastes good with the right wine to compliment, just ask your waiter, or better yet, ask someone that’s single.

Venue Review: The Hollywood Canteen - Restaurant / Bar / Club - Los Angeles (LA)

The Hollywood Canteen
1006 Seward St
Los Angeles, CA 90038
(323) 465-0961
www.hollywoodcanteenla.com

Opened in 1942 until the end of WWII in 1945, the Hollywood Canteen offered service men the best food, drink, and entertainment of their time.

According to Wikipedia, the original Hollywood Canteen was open by an actor/ actress couple, Bette Davis and John Garfield in order to give American servicemen a last dose of entertainment before shipping out to war overseas.

Now over half a century later, it’s situated between two studio lots and is trying hard to keep its sense of cool. The dining area has a ‘40s art deco and serves as a contemporary lounge while the “Love Den” is an old air-stream trailer, also from the ‘40s.

On the weekends the huge air-stream trailer turns into a mini dance floor giving you the setting to dance in real retro style.

Beware of having too much fun as the drinks can get on the pricey side.

New Venue Opening: LAX - Lounge - Los Angeles (LA)

LAX
1714 N. Las Palmas Ave (@ Hollywood Blvd)
Los Angeles, CA 90028
(323) 464 0171

September 02, 2005: Last week Hollywood mainstay Las Palmas was remade as an jetliner themed lounge under the direction of celebrity DJ AM.  Sleek, and decidedly ultramodern, LAX makes you feel as if you’re luxuriating in a First Class jet cabin decorated with circular, cozy VIP booths, mirrors, and a spherical fish tank behind the bar.  There’s even a couple of outdoor patios for when things get too thick.  The opening night festivities saw some fireworks on the dance floor between DJ AM and his fiancée, Nicole Richie.

New Venue Opening: Broadway Bar - Lounge - Los Angeles (LA)

Broadway Bar
830 South Broadway
Los Angeles, CA 90014
(213) 614 9909

With the successes of the Golden Gopher and Liquid Kitty to his credit, LA nightlife magnate Cedd Moses resurrects the glamour and elegance of legendary boxer Jack Dempsey’s Broadway Bar in New York.  An impressive 50 foot circular bar and 3 foot wide vintage chandeliers dominate the main room, with gold, red, and blue detailing and classis neon accents.  Luxurious settees, a patio area, and prime balcony seating on the second floor offer great people watching.  In spite of all the plush, swanky style, Broadway Bar is rather passionate about keeping the atmosphere very relaxed with no door policy, no guest list, and a laid back dress code.
