Hamptons Restaurant Preview - New Restaurants For 2007

Memorial Day Weekend is hours away--do you know where you'll be eating this summer in the Hamptons? As is standard, a number of new restaurants will be opening their doors this summer. Today we'll take a quick look at some of the standouts.

Town Line BBQ has been generating a good bit of buzz for a barbecue joint. Eater had this to say back in April:

The space is owned by Mark Smith and Honest Management Company, who operate the massively successful Nick & Toni’s, as well as Rowdy Hall, La Fondita and Villa Italian Specialties. Pitmaster/chef at Townline will be Joe Realmuto.

According to Newsday, the menu will focus on Texas-style BBQ. A mid-June opening is expected. Town Line BBQ will be located in Sagaponack at 3593 Townline Road.

Hamptons.com has the details on Muse Restaurant & Aquatic Lounge in Water Mill:

The restaurant is the first such venture for chef-owner Matthew Guiffrida formerly of the The Patio in Westhampton Beach, Collage in Huntington and Inn at Quogue in Quogue. Completely revamped and outfitted with a top-of-the-line kitchen, the restaurant features unique design elements yet to been seen in a Hamptons eatery. The aquatic lounge houses a salt-water fish tank bar top, a water wall, window seats, and a candlelit chandelier.

Last week we wrote about Prime 103, a new Steak House, Sushi Bar, and Lounge in East Hampton.

Newsday offer this preview of Tutto Il Giorno, a new contemporary Italian in Sag Harbor:

It's always news when a hot Manhattan food talent hits the Hamptons. This summer, Scott Conant, formerly of L'Impero and Alto, is consulting chef at this sunny yellow space across from the Sag Harbor marina. Conant's contemporary Italian menu is executed by chef Benito Trombetta (who cooked at Il Buco in Manhattan) and sous chef Matthew Purcell (who was at Almond in Bridgehampton). The restaurant's name, which means "all day" in Italian, refers to the fact that it serves breakfast, lunch and dinner daily.

The writers from the Beach also stopped by Tutto Il Giorno, and they left happy:

This is good food by New York, not East End, standards. For lunch, do not miss the soft shell crab sandwich, the best thing on ciabatta bread you're going to eat this summer. Prices are at least reasonable-ish, hovering in the neighborhood of $11 for apps, $17 for pastas and $22 for entrees—but the $55 macaroni and cheese with truffles is conspicuously missing. Open for previews now, with an official open to follow the weekend of June 1.

Venue Review: Flirt - Hamptons (New York)

We hear from Page Six (hey it must be true!) that popular East Hampton spot Resort Lounge will be reopening this summer as Flirt. Back in 2005 we wrote about Resort Lounge:

Resort has four distinct areas with two rooms and two patios with enough space for live performances as well as strong DJ-fueled beats. Décor ranges from a sensual mix of orange, turquoise, and white in the main room to the “White Room” with an all white interior and white bed tables. The Morroccan patio leads off to the VIP room, and then there’s the back garden with the ultra-exclusive time-share cabanas each with their own masseuse.

Resort Well, things are going to be a bit different this summer:

THE East Hampton nightclub Resort is opening this summer as a French bistro/cabaret/lounge called Flirt. Longtime owner of the property Frank Cilione, who spends most of the year in Palm Beach, is bringing in chef Andrew Marc Rothschild, formerly of the Forge in Miami and the River Café in New York, to have the place open by Memorial Day. (New York Post - Page Six)

The Beach has one important question

At the end of the day, all we need to know is if the “18 to party, 21 to drink” rule still stands for Thursday nights.” (aka, “My attorney is on speed dial” night.)

We'll let you know as soon as we find out.

Venue Review: Stereo By The Shore (Tavern) - Hamptons (New York)

Memorial Day Weekend is days away, so it's time to pick up the pace on our coverage of The Hamptons 2007 Nightlife Scene. First up today is Stereo By The Shore, inhabiting the old Tavern Space in Southampton. Stereo According to The Beach, owners Michael Satsky and Barry Mullineaux have poured $1 Million dollars into a redesign. We've got some details on the redesign:

The club’s re-design has been colossal; an entirely separate beach oasis was constructed - complete with pogoda-esque VIP cabanas and Stereo’s signature style. Décor details from Stereo’s Manhattan club will resonate through the entire space – including wall display’s that showcase antique Stereo equipment. (Press Release)

The Press Release also informs us just how decadent things are going to be at Stereo By The Shore:

VIP Clientele can expect helicopter rides from Manhattan to a landing strip less then a mile away from the club. Once on land, a fleet of chauffeured driven Bentetly’s will escort you to your desired location.

Venue Review: Dune - Southampton (Hamptons, New York)

Last week we let you know that the Marquee ownership team would be reworking the Jet East space in to a new club called Dune. We know have some details for you:

DUNE has been redesigned by Steven Lewis (Marquee, Butter, Aspen) to reflect the Hamptons glamour and understated sophistication.  That said, don't be fooled, nothing about this party will be understated it will be an excessive all night party with the best events all summer long.

Dune2 Urban Daddy provides even more info:

Launched—or, shall we say, shoved off—by the guys behind Marquee, Dune is your spot for nautical-themed nightlife on the East End. Designed by Steve Lewis (Butter, Amalia) in the vast 6,000-square-foot space once occupied by Jet East, Dune exudes yacht club chic—yeah, we didn't think it was possible either—with touches like antique fishing lures hung from the ceiling, glass-blown buoys behind the main bar, framed photographs of seafaring Thurston Howell-types and thick maritime rope throughout the club.

But the Captain-Stubing-meets-Ralph-Lauren vibe doesn't end there. You'll also find 19th-century nautical maps along the walls, bartenders in blue polos and khakis and cocktail waitresses in slinky navy dresses—ask them to bring you The Anchor (vodka, lime, soda, cranberry splash) and settle in at one of 36 bi-level tables.

For Memorial Day Weekend there will be parties Friday, Saturday, and Sunday Night. Karma Magazine will be in attendance Friday night, and Maxim Magazine will be there Saturday night, while Sunday will mark the launch of Blackbook Summer Sessions.

Dune will be open Thursday through Sunday, 10PM - 4AM, from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

Check JoonBug for Dune details.

Venue Preview: Prime 103 - Restaurant (Hamptons, NY)

We've been hearing a lot about Prime 103, a new Steak House, Sushi Bar, and Lounge in East Hampton. Prime 103 will be in the space formerly occupied by JL East. Urban Daddy and The Beach have the scoop:

The man who calls himself Jean Luc has brought in executive chef Brian Cheewing, whose East End credits include George Martin Steakhouse and James on Main. Visas and paperwork for a team of Japanese sushi chefs are being acquired as we speak, too. Meats will be offered in all sorts of cuts, from Newport steak to porterhouse. Live jazz and outdoor cabanas are also part of the concept, as are ostrich skin tufted banquettes. Kleefield is going for, in his own words, a "sumptuous, beautiful steakhouse." (The Beach)

Urban Daddy has some info on the lounge-half of the venue:

The back room has been transformed (read: sexed up) from a dining area to a lounge, which opens onto a back patio with cozy cabanas perfect for your more private conversations.

Check JoonBug for Prime 103 details.

New Venue Opening: 27 Lobster and Surf Shack - Restaurant - Hamptons

2095 Montauk Hwy.
Amagansett, NY
(631) 267-6980

It feels like every new summer comes a new restaurant at the Hamptons, and topping this year's newbie list is the 27 Lobster and Surf Shack. But don't be fooled by the newbie status of 27 Lobster. The owner is a veteran restaurant entrepreneur, "Bar Czar" Alex Gorden, and if you don't know the name, you'll know his Manhattan creations- Bamboo Bernie’s, Bourbon St., Zoo Bar, Big Al’s and A.J. Gordon’s Brewing Co. Not too shabby of a list.

Serving casual seafood with a Cajun flare, the menu features a variety of Cajun specialties. Favorites like jambalaya, Po’ boys, fried oysters, Cajun blackened tuna and crab cakes are all on the menu mixed up with local seafood items such as lobsters ($9.95 for 1 1/4 lbs!), clams, local fish, and Maryland blue crabs complete with mallets and pitchers of beer.

The new surf shack, launched this past Memorial Day weekend, also boasts some "crazy" drink concoctions, but its real draw is the 100+ outdoor, beachside capacity. Catch some rays and a great sunset view while enjoying live bands (on the weekends w/ no charge!) jamming to beach-party tunes like the Kinks, Elvis, and of course, the Beach Boys.
