The aviation-themed décor at Café Saint-Ex (named after French author & pilot Antoine de Saint-Exupery) stems from owner Mike Benson’s love for and family history with flying. Black Salt
4883 MacArthur Blvd, NW
Washington, DC 20007

Jeff Black’s latest eatery in quiet nook of Northwest DC is a wonderful combination of restaurant and  fish market.  Black Salt is a seafood haven with ultra fresh ingredients.  Because the menu changes regularly to take advantage of market availability, it’s kind of hard to think of particular house specialties, but the raw bar offers up top notch oysters, and the crab cakes are great standbys.  No matter what specials are available, save room for their deserts like the Key Lime Pie.

Penn Quarter’s IndeBleu is passionate about fusion.  They combine grand elegance in their dining room with swanky, decadent, upscale style in their downstairs lounge.  The kitchen serves up a delicious blend of French and Indian cuisine.  Foie Gras is served with a mango – rose petal marmalade and sandwiched between layers of garam masala brioche.  The drink menu (including 50 signature cocktails) was whimsically crafted to look like a map of the Washington Metro.  The bottle service friendly lounge exudes sensuality with rich, warm orange & reds throughout and loads of couches & seating areas.  The restaurant waitstaff has received formal deportment training, and yet the overall experience at IndeBleu is far from formal with their sense of whimsy extending even to their desserts like the “Spaghetti & Meatballs” – ribbons of Saffron – Cardamom ice cream served with little rose scented Indian milk cakes.

Eighteenth Street Lounge

ESL is one of the District’s best known clubs, but then again with owners like Deep House legends Thievery Corporation’s Eric Hilton and Rob Garz, it’s not hard to figure out that people from all over the world have made a point to come here to party.  The dress code may be relatively sophisticated, but ESL is fairly down-to-earth with music ranging from Deep House to classic Jazz.  It is an ultra glam club with loads of cushy lounges that feels like a fabulous home – no big surprise since ESL is both home to Thievery Corporation and the ESL Music label they created.

Venue Review: Home - Washington DC

Home
911 F. St, NW
Washington, DC 20004

There are few clubs that can go toe to toe with Home.  5 floors of decadence are guarded by a very selective door policy with dress code in full effect.  There’s a tasty variety of music provided by some of the best DJs on the East Coast and beyond.  The top two floors are VIP only and while bottle service is the rule of thumb on both floors, access to the Attic – the top VIP floor will run you $1,000 a year.  In spite of an exclusive and elite atmosphere, there are more than enough drink specials and happy hour events to round things out for Home as a white-hot nightclub.

One of DC’s hottest uber-clubs, Platinum draws in a steady stream of young well-heeled international
glamorous people hungry to see and be seen. There are two floors of bangin’ house, trance, techno, and
hip-hop along with more intimate (and pricey) lounge areas for the VIP set. The sound systems will drown out anything resembling a conversation, and the wallet damage can be considerable, but the people watching is prime.

Here's what The Washington Post and Digital City had to say about Platinum.

Venue Review: H2O - Washington, DC

H20
800 Water St, SW
Washington, DC 20024
(202) 484-6300

While H2O is rather large, the atmosphere is rather intimate with mood lighting and cushy booths. The
seafood menu draws partially on its prior incarnation as local legend Hogate’s. Large dishes of traditional
seefood fare are rounded out with steak, pork, and poultry along with pasta dishes. This is most definitely a cut above fish & chips.

Here's what The Washington Post and Digital City thought about H2O.

Venue Review: Dragonfly - Washington, DC

Dragonfly
1215 Connecticut Ave NW
Washington, DC 20036-2606
(202) 331-1775

The first thing to hit you upon entering Dragonfly is the stark post-modernist décor. The all white
interiors are nicely matched with a steady mix of trance, techno, and drum & bass kept at a tolerable
level for schmoozing and conversation. There’s a perpetual stream of martial arts movies and Japanese
animation projected throughout Dragonfly, and one of the most refreshing things about this elite club is
that there’s no cover. There may be a line to get in, but you have to expect that of any club right by
Dupont Circle.

Here's what The Washington Post and Digital City had to say about Dragonfly.

Venue Review: Diva - Washington, DC

Diva
1350 'I' Street NW
Washington, DC 20005
(202) 289-7300

Late on the weekends, primo Italian restaurant Tuscana West changes into Diva, a globally cosmopolitan dance club. After all, in a city that thrives on international visitors like Washington, many of the
patrons are diplomats and foreign students as well as DC’s polyglot natives. The service is first rate, and
the house DJs spin housed-up versions of pop hits, but also Latin & Arabic flavored techno and drum & bass with a side room offering a more sedate chillout spot. Diva fills up quickly with fabulously dressed
clubbers looking to see and be seen (in addition to doing some wallet damage).

Venue Review: Saki - Washington, DC

Saki
2477 18th Street, NW
Washington, DC 20009
(202) 232-5005

This stylish Pan-Asian restaurant gets clubbers up and down Dupont Circle for it’s great sushi and creative
dishes. The décor is fairly more comforting and colorful than what you might expect. There’s also a
cushier lounge area downstairs with just enough space to dance. This is the spot to take a date out for
something swankier than just a bite to eat.

Here's what The Washington Post and Digital City had to say about Saki.

Venue Review: Fur - Washington, DC

Fur
33 Patterson Street, NE
Washington, DC 20002

Fur is loaded with all the trappings of larger uber-clubs, and part of that means the exclusivity,
and the velvet rope along with a killer sound system, multiple floors, and loads of chillout lounges.
There’s even a smoking lounge with a respectable cigar list and a restaurant offering up munchies. No matter what the night, Fur is bound to be filled with decked out beautiful people looking to show off.

Here's what Digital City had to say about Fur.

Venie Review: Five - Washington, DC

Five

Washington, DC 20036
(202) 331-9882
website

While the lines to get into Five are long, at least the attitude here isn’t all that exclusive. This is a
straight up dance club with a fairly laid back atmosphere, meaning you don’t have to blow a wad on
the latest couture just to get in. There is a different theme to each night, and on the weekends,
Five’s DJs ramp it up to afterhours energy levels and spin til the break of dawn.

Here's what The Washington Post and Digital City thought of Five.

Venue Review: Dream - Washington, DC

Dream
1350 Okie St NE
Washington, DC 20002-1732
(202) 636-9030

One of the few true uber-clubs in DC, Dream is positively loaded. Everything is posh, and there are
some features you won’t find elsewhere. The main dance floor could easily accommodate 1,000 people, and is a different theme to each of the dance floors throughout. There is an incredible number of fully
stocked bars at Dream to accommodate a wide spectrum of clubbers looking to have a seriously good time. Of course there are lounges, but the crowning achievement here is the VIP floor complete with a bedroom (no joke). For about $5,000, you could rent this place out for the night complete with bartender and waitstaff included. Now that’s luxurious.

Here's what Digital City and The Washington Post had to say about Dream.
