Event Preview: Grand Opening Of The 40/40 Club Las Vegas

With 40/40 Clubs already operating in NYC and Atlantic City, Jay-Z is set to open one more this year in Las Vegas, at the about-to-open Palazzo expansion of the Venetian Resort & Casino. What is the Palazzo you wonder:

The Palazzo Las Vegas is a 643-foot (196-m), 53-story extension of The Venetian Casino Resort and the Sands Expo complex on the Las Vegas Strip. The Palazzo is currently under construction. Owned by the Las Vegas Sands Corp., it is scheduled to open December 20, 2007.

The $1.6 billion resort will feature a Lobby where guests from the street will arrive under a 60-foot (18 m) glass dome with a two-story fountain. Those approaching from The Venetian will make the transition through a towering octagonal structure, itself topped by a glass-and-iron dome. The completed Palazzo will include, among other amenities: 3,025 suites, 375 concierge-level suites and six villas with up to 11,000 square feet ((1,000 m²) each, a 105,000 ft² (9,750 m²) casino with 2,000 slot machines and 80 table games, an extension of the Grand Canal Shoppes, a theater, and a spa

And of course, a new 40/40 Club. The Grand Opening Gala is set for Sunday, December 30th, at 9pm. If you're in Vegas for New Year's Eve, this might be the best pre-NYE party in town. If you make it in, let us know in the comments!

Event Preview: NBA All-Star Weekend Las Vegas 2007

Each year, one lucky city gets to host the NBA's All-Star Weekend. Unsuspecting residents lose their minds when the entire city (See Atlanta, 2003) turns into one giant parking lot, while other, wiser urbanites, enjoy the party while it lasts.

Things should be a bit different this year, as All-Star Weekend 2007 is set for this weekend. Back in 2003 over 120,000 people descended on Atlanta, most of them not there for the game itself, obviously. With the weekend set for Vegas, the parties should be absolutely out of control.

It's a Kid Rock and Pamela Anderson New Year's Eve 2007 in Las Vegas

Jet Mirage Nightclub
3400 Las Vegas Blvd. South
Las Vegas, NV

Tao Las Vegas
3377 Las Vegas Blvd. South
Las Vegas, NV

Kid Rock does a rare live DJ set at Jet's New Year's Eve bash. Will he rummage through his records for tunes of heartbreak or will he rock the decks with songs of freedom and rage?

As much as he might be trying to forget his buxomly blonde ex, there's not much you can do when she's down the street hosting her own New Year's Eve Party.

Yep, Pamela Anderson will be bringing in 2007 at Tao Las Vegas, a mere 300 feet away from Jet. Will they reconcile in the festive air of 2007? Will Borat make an appearance and ruin their relationship again? Will Kid Rock pummel Sacha Baron Cohen to the ground?

All unlikely possibilities, but what is likely is that which ever side of this relationship you choose to be on, it'll be a fun and eventful New Year's Eve.

Check out the details for Jet here and the info for Tao Las Vegas here.

New Year's Eve 2007 in Las Vegas

Due to the popularity of legalized gambling, availability of alcoholic beverages at any time (as is true throughout Nevada), and various forms and degrees of adult entertainment, Las Vegas has been a prime destination for high style debauchery. With the recent opening of the Playboy Club hosted by Hugh’s “Girls Next Door,” Sin City got even badder this year. What better time of year to explore all of Vegas’ vices than New Year’s Eve? Take Hefner’s lead into the New Year frolicking in downtown Vice City and check out some of the most hedonistic parties in the country. They don’t call it Sin City for nothing.

Here are some New Year's Eve parties in Las Vegas not to miss:

Event Review: Take 1 Takes Downtown Las Vegas

17 December, 2004 – In the other city that never sleeps, the first official nightclub in Las Vegas’ downtown Entertainment District is getting buzz about its red-hot “All-Star Jam Sessions”. Tonight, Take 1 club owner Gary Sax and m.e.n. Record’s Early Clover managed to assemble some of the hottest blues and R&B performers in town to strut their stuff at what promises to be one of the most interesting new venues in town.

Unassumingly tucked away on the corner of 7th and Fremont Streets near the legendary El Cortez Hotel & Casino, this newcomer hosted a night to remember, bringing together musicians and singers from The Coasters, The Drifters, The Platters, and even the members of Gladys Knight’s band (since the idol herself is in town playing the Flamingo Showroom). Names like Lorenzo Shaw, Ron Brown, Laurence T. and Debra McFarland a.k.a. “Diamond in the Rough” took turns on stage covering just about every Motown song you can think of. Early had the place jumping with hits from the 50’s and Ms. McFarland’s “Neither One of Us” was right on the money from start to finish. Vince Preister’s outstanding sax left no doubt as to why Ms. Knight still wants him in her band after nearly 8 years, and the beautiful Regi Brown’s soprano voice is why she’s on the road with her too. “I felt like I died and went to the Apollo,” said nightlife investor/developer Lisa Gregg Steinmetz who was there with fellow New Yorker Jason Baron and friends. “What an incredible night, and finally something different from the big casino bars.”

Opened just over a month ago on November 5th with a ribbon-cutting ceremony by the charismatic Mayor Goodman, Take 1 is setting its sights on something original in Las Vegas: a combination of live music, food and a twist on film. There’s an oversized movie screen out front and a small recording studio in the back that lets customers superimpose themselves into a film as a speaking character (in other words, Mayor Goodman was Mickey Rooney in “Quicksand”)! With its downtown location, an owner who knows the film and music industries and likes to “set trends instead of follow them,” some good Italian food and a bunch of nights like this one, and Mr. Sax just may have a hit on his hands.

Event Review: A Night on the Town ala Alain Ducasse & The World Poker Tour - Las Vegas

16 December, 2004 – Reminiscent of the gorgeous penthouse bar in Sofia Coppola’s “Lost in Translation,” Alain Ducasse’s Mix in Las Vegas is a truly beautiful space, perched atop the hot new THE Hotel on the Strip. In a property owned by Mandalay Bay Resorts and Casinos, Mix is located on the 43rd floor of the newer hotel and offers its exclusive clientele sweeping views of Las Vegas in every direction, from its tables inside the bar and restaurant to its oversized, heat-lamped outdoor balcony. The centerpiece of the venue is a giant illuminated red structure which houses a raised seating area and is intended to resemble an ultramodern version of sea coral. The dining room in the back is surrounded by hundreds of clear glass bottles which hang from the ceiling, giving the white modern room a thoroughly ethereal vibe. “I love anything white,” said nightlife investor/developer Lisa Gregg Steinmetz who is visiting from NYC to scope out new investment properties in Sin City. “The hanging bottles are really interesting as a design concept – they’re beautiful and peaceful and remind me of falling raindrops.” Also on hand for the breathtaking views were Vegas nightlife aficionados LeAnn Brodecky of Channel 8 News who calls Mix “The coolest lounge to open in Las Vegas to date,”  and Greg Jarmololowich of the much-anticipated Pure in Caesar’s Palace.

Later that night, revelers got a peek at the World Poker Tournament (WPT) being held at the ever-lovely Bellagio Hotel, where celebrity poker players Daniel Negranu and Howard Ledderer were advancing in the rounds. The night was capped off by some great music and dancing at Light (also in the Bellagio), though one never really knows where the nights here end…
