For well over 20 years, Filomena has been drawing heads of state, actors, diplomats, and Washingtonians hungry for fresh Italian food. Passersby watch the “pasta mamas” make homemade pasta in the storefront window. Huge portions of classically prepared dishes like the Tagilatelle alla Montanara – homemade fettuccine with sautéed mushrooms, and the Fusilli di Carrado – long wavy pasta in a vodka-tomato-cream sauce with prosciutto ham keep Filomena packed. Elegant garden settings are perfect for lunch or an elegant, romantic dinner.
Here’s what The Washington Post and Digital City had to say about Filomena

Has anyone been to Filomena lately?
I've had excellent experiences at Filomena..hopefully the reviewer previous to me had an isolated incident. I enjoyed the food and service, and thought it to be very quaint. Added bonus: They bring you a bottle of Sambuca and Amaretto on the house!

I just had one of the worst restaurant experiences of my life at this place, and want to warn people: Don't Believe the Hype.
Okay. on arrival, I went to use the bathroom and found one of the toilets overflowing. I came out, told the manager (after trying to track him down for ten minutes) and he assured me he would take care of it immediately. 2 1/2 hours later? Overflowed toilet water was covering the floor (which an elderly woman slipped in) and no sign on the door - clearly nothing had been done at all.
Gross.
Now, dinner. We had to beg for a waiter after waiting at least 15 minutes (this was a big family outing), and when one finally did arrive, he acted as if us being there was putting him out. One of our party didn't have a napkin or plate, and after repeatedly asking for one (I'd say, I'm not kidding, about 20 minutes or so) we finally stood up and got it ourselves.
When we finally had our order taken, it came out all wrong. We had ordered salads, none of which ever saw the light of our table. Instead, they brought our entrees, which, for the most part, were truly awful. Pastas swimming in flavorless cream sauce (the raviloi plate looked like a cream soup) and fried appetizers not even TGIF quality.
To be fair - the holiday decor is very charming. Problem is, this made the horrible service and food even more disappointing.
Filomena: absolutely horrible and way overpriced. Terrible service across the board. And unbelievably arrogant.
This place may look like a castle, but it acts like a dump.
