Venue Review: Sanctuary - Lounge -Boston

Sanctuary
189 State St (@ India St)
Boston, MA 02109
(617) 573 9333

Just off the mass of Irish bars by Quincy Market, Sanctuary acts as a beacon for Boston’s nightlife denizens.  Sanctuary actually offers lunch service and has a fairly bustling afterwork crowd as well.  Sanctuary is set up with the dining area on the top level, the cushy downstairs dance lounge, and the cavernous main floor in between.  Signature cocktails  pack quite a heft, and the kitchen focuses on Latin-Asian tapas sized appetizers.

Venue Review: Voda - Lounge - San Francisco

Voda
56 Belden Pl
San Francisco, CA 94104
415 677 9242

With sleek & postmodern décor, Voda shines as a great lounge in the Financial District.  Lit up in cool blue with red white and blue leather couches and back-lit art lining the walls, Voda feels more like South Beach than the Bay.  DJs keep the energy high from after work well through the wee hours of the evening.  Voda sports a truly impressive list of over 100 kinds of vodka.  Martinis and specialty cocktails are the rule of thumb at Voda.

Venue Review: Lucky's Lounge - Boston

Lucky’s Lounge
355 Congress St
Boston, MA 02210
(617) 357 5825
website

This Financial District lounge has a strong Rat Pack feel without being incredibly cheesy.  While Lucky’s hosts live musical acts, the focus is on Sinatra with some Jazz, Rock, and Lounge Lizard standards.  The kitchen whips up a tasty American menu, and the signature cocktail menu is pretty hefty.

Venue Review: Southwark - Bar - Restaurant - Philadelphia

Southwark
701 S. 4th St (@ Bainbridge St)
Philadelphia, PA 19147
(215) 238 1888

Southwark may be at the corner of South 4th & Bainbridge, but this is a whole lot more than just a corner bar.  No jukebox, no TVs, and no roster of DJs spinning heavy beats.  Southwark offers a refreshing, down-to-earth, yet ultimately sophisticated atmosphere.  MP3 driven ambient tunes are piped in, and the bar blends superlative cocktails.  The kitchen excels at French country fare like their grilled rabbit, and more than a few seafood treats.  The bar menu is most definitely a cut above and the crab beignets stand out.

This Copley Square icon combines stately Edwardian interiors, a rich sense of tradition & style and mammoth servings of well prepared favorites like their Filet Mignon and the Lobster Bisque.  Even appetizers and side dishes like their artichoke & lobster cocktail or their garlicky sautéed spinach are hearty while the desert menu is absolutely decadent. Restauranteur Aldo Lamberti’s love affair with the city of Positano shows brilliantly in his latest effort, an extensive remodeling of his Philly spot, Lamberti’s Cucina.  Expansive seaside murals of the Amalfi Coast & of the dramatic views from Positano run through out this stylish, Mediterranean oasis.  The menu centers on southern Italian seafood dishes like their Sauteed Swordfish Loin with Clams & Roasted Zucchini or their Grilled Salmon with Fresh Broccoli served with a Limoncello sauce.
