Venue Review: Gazuza - Lounge - Washington, D.C.
Gazuza
1629 Connecticut Ave, NW
Washington, DC 20009

Gazuza has quickly become one of Dupont Circle’s hottest see and be seen spots. Sleek, ultra modern décor, ultra friendly staff, and some killer cocktails draw in a hip, mixed crowd of laid back gay & straight urbanites. In warmer climes, the patio overlooking Connecticut Ave opens up. The DJs keep the ambient/downtempo beats to a comfortable level for conversations and relaxing.

Has anybody been to Gazuza lately?
Went to Gazuza's for a Monday night happy hour for a friend's birthday. Place was empty but hip. Ordered drinks, which weren't spectacular but the sushi was okay. At the end of the evening, the waiter (who was okay otherwise) spilled a pint of vodka cran on my friend and I. The waiter took forever to help and then told us it was our fault (HOW??? the place was EMPTY!!!). After talking with the manager, he told us that he won't reduce the bill and that he would give us a free drink (even though we were SOAKED and wanted to leave). It wasn't until we got VERY angry that he compt'ed my friend and basically asked us to leave. I've read a few reviews of this place and I encourage you to save your time, money and clothing and go to another bar.

Well, the music was OK and the new decor is appealing but the service and the managers of the place are RIDICULOUS. My friends and I ordered a round of martinis and some beers and decided to go with caipirinhas and mojitos for the second round. The drinks were an absolute nonsense. Both drinks were horrendously sweet, had no cachaca whatsoever, there were usellesly floating quarters (!) of lime and a few sad sprigs of mint in mojitos. On top of it, caipirinhas had a weird aftertaste of pineapple. Needless to say, we wanted to change our drinks and were told we can't.
We asked to see a manager who was outrageously rude. He literaly told us that a) we do not know what constitutes a good drink (he even asked me "do you know what goes into a caipirinha? have you ever been to Brazil? "); b)we are scamming (!!) the place to get a free drink. Well, I have, in fact, been to Brazil and, alas, some sugar and two lime quarters do not a Caipirinha make. Those people charged us 9 bucks a drink and can't properly cut lime, nor do they know that for such drinks you PRESS THE LIME AND SUGAR TOGETHER to get a syrup, add cachaca and voila! (rocket science much?). The drinks should be TANGY not sugar water.
The manager was rude beyond belief - if Gazuza thinks that by offering subpar drinks and then intimidating unsatisfied customers it will attract or maintain business, they are in for an unpleasant surprise.
So, although the place has potential, rude service and bad drinks just kill it.
