Venue Review: Cafe Cocomo - San Francisco

Café Cocomo
650 Indiana St
San Francisco, CA 94107
(415) 824-6910
website

This tropical oasis offers a healthy taste of Havana deep in the heart of Portero Hill’s industrial area.  Even with live bands fueling the dance floor with hot salsa beats or DJs spinning hip hop, house, and pop hits, Café Cocomo never feels terribly claustrophobic.  The dance floor is large enough to accommodate even the busiest nights while the lounge areas on the balcony have a primo view of the action.  There’s a smoking-friendly outdoors patio, and while clubbers will have to navigate past the ubiquitous velvet rope, and the dress code is fairly upscale, the overall atmosphere is pretty laid back.

Here’s what Citysearch and Digital City had to say a bout Café Cocomo

New Year's Eve Parties New York City (NYC), Boston and Chicago

Every year has to come to an end. And that means it is party time! So out with the old and in with the new! How are you going to celebrate New Year's Eve this year? Where will you be to help welcome in the first night of the New Year? Here are some parties that will surely help you get rid of the old and bring on the new (except for that nasty hangover that always seems to be right there with you from the night before).

New Year's Eve Parties in Chicago

The Drake Hotel

It's new Year's Eve, so why do it small when you can party like a rock star. The Drake Hotel has so much going on you might never want to leave. They have so many different rooms with every type of music (classics to rock to hip-hop to dance), so many bars we can't even count and of course dancing, food and much more! Sponsors like Bacardi, Pop, Budweiser and Cointreau have gotten involved so you know that getting a drink won't be a problem. Table 50 - GQ and Bvlgari Event

Last night we were so lucky to be invited to Table 50 for the Bvlgari and GQ event. Not only were the Bvlgari watches on display to die for but we were outnumbered by celebrities. Thanks to Flying Television the invite list was also to die for. At the sit down dinner you could spot: Kanye West and his mom, Rev. Al Sharpton, Ice-T and Coco,Fran Drescher (The nanny), David Barton (of David Barton Gyms), Vanessa Carlton and more. After an intimate dinner to celebrate Bvlgari and GQ, they cleared out the tables and pumped up the volume. We were all treated to tasty desserts and cocktails. It was a night to remember.

Venue Review: Medici Lounge - Dallas

Medici Lounge
2404 Cedar Springs Rd
Dallas, TX 75201
(214) 871-7444
website

Medici counters the prevalent aesthetic in most lounges.  Instead of steel, plastics, and pastel shades, Medici presents its patrons with an old-world charm of dark, rich earth tones, wood, and marble. Keep in mind that this is a semi-private venue.  To get in, you have to either navigate past the velvet rope, or been invited by the management (having just eaten at Nick & Sam’s, their next door high-end steakhouse).  Once inside, the lounge offers custom leather couches, a rotating list of top flight DJs, and a respectable cocktail menu.

Venue Revue: Green Room - NYC Bar / Lounge Opening

Green Room

286 SPRING STREET
(btwn Hudson & Varick)
New York, NYC

This week marks the opening date for the Green Room, NYC's newest addition to the downtown lounge scene. Green Room is usually a term used to describe the "waiting area" for celebrities before they make an appearance on a talk show or concert etc. But we think the opposite will happen here. This is where the clebs will actually hang out and where all the action will be. They have brought in hosts from Pangaea and Nocturne so we can already see where this one is going. We'll keep you posted on how the opening turns out and as always keep us posted as well...

Venue Review: North - Philadelphia

North
222 South St
Philadelphia, PA 19147
(215) 238-0299

North is a wonderful mix of ultra lounge and an old favorite hangout spot.  The décor is warm, rich, and inviting with slate floors and playful constellations of lights.  The bar ranges from happy hour beers and cocktails to bottle service in the lounge area.  The menu offers up some tasty appetizers like shrimp cocktails, and vegetarian panini.  The DJs keep things nice and relaxed with old school hip hop, funk, r&b, and classic rock tunes.

Venue Review: Platinum - New Jersey

Platinum
13 Paterson St
New Brunswick, NJ 08901
(732) 937-6113
website

Club Platinum offers New Brunswick all the bells and whistles you’d come to expect from uber-clubs in NYC.  Bottle and table service are here for people that want to kick back in VIP style, and the lounge area is complimented with a visually stunning bar and some pretty cushy banquettes.  This is about the best place in Platinum to have a conversation.  The dance floor can get pretty loud with a rotating list of DJs.  There are college-friendly nights, a fairly relaxed dress code, and more than enough drink specials to keep the uber-club attitude to comfortable levels.

Venue Review: Bongo's - Miami

Bongo’s
601 Biscayne Blvd
Miami, FL 33132

Gloria and Emilio Estefan have combined their passions for food and music into Bongo’s – a festive combination of traditional Cuban cuisine and a lush tropical nightclub.  The dishes are served up in large portions, and there is a colorful artistry in the menu from the appetizers to the desserts.  On the weekends, the dance floor gets packed with DJ fueled beats from Latin to Techno to House.  On top of that, Bongo’s is right next to the American Airlines Arena, making it a prime spot to go to after a concert.

Venue Review: Point Moorea - Los Angeles (LA)

Point Moorea
930 Wilshire Blvd
Los Angeles, CA 90017
(213) 833-5100
website

Point Moorea is an odd hybrid of ultra lounge and tiki bar.  The décor is overloaded with Polynesian kitsch, although it is also decidedly modern with glimmering bars, loads of TVs, a couple of pool tables, and a see and be seen vibe.  Because of its prime downtown location, Point Moorea attracts a diverse crowd from business suits to the fashion forward.  The cocktail list is pretty long, and kitchen offers up some tasty appetizers.

Venue Review: Peppermill Inn - Las Vegas

Peppermill  Inn
2985 Las Vegas Blvd S
Las Vegas, NV 89109

The Peppermill is a bona fide Las Vegas institution.  This isn’t an ultra swanky lounge, there isn’t a dance floor, and if you see some of the world’s finest DJs they're likely to be seen having a plate of pancakes after a gig here.  Walking in, you feel like you’ve just turned back the clock.  The Peppermill has remained fairly the same since the 70s.  It’s open 24/7, and the kitchen offers up Texas-sized comfort food, while the lounge has a surprising intimacy with no tangible meat market vibe.  Good kitschy fun.
