New Venue Opening: Duvet - New York City (NYC)

Duvet
45 W. 21st St.
New York, NYC 10010
212-989-2121
website

Set in the Flatiron district, Duvet puts a nifty flirtatious spin on the lounge aesthetic with gonzo oversized beds instead of sofas and banquettes, 2 42” plasma screens in the main room and a 84” (you read right – 84”) plasma screen on the dance floor. Even the bathroom (a unisex restroom referred to as the “Water Lounge”) is ultra glamorous. You can imagine what the VIP room is like. Top of the line lighting and sound systems are sure to pack the place on any given night.

Here's what Shecky's Bar Star had to say.

Here is sample of what Duvet is set to look like inside:

Venue Review: Star Bar - New York City (NYC)

Star Bar
4 W. 22nd Street
New York, NYC 10010
(646) 230-1444
website

Decorated with stunning portraits of celebs like Eminem, the Hiltons, and other Page 6 fixtures, the former Tiki Room in the Flatiron district is transformed into a joint where a young crowd can enjoy top DJs while drinking from a menu of celebrities’ favorite cocktails. Thankfully the food is more down to earth with almost traditional bar fare like personal sized pizzas and chicken fingers. After the crowds go and the parties end, Star Bar changes into Howie Keck’s studio/gallery space.

Here's what Shecky's had to say about Star Bar.

Venue Review: The Cabanas (at The Maritime Hotel) - New York City (NYC)

The Cabanas (at The Maritime Hotel)
363 W. 16th Street
New York, NYC 10011
(212) 243 - 3888
website

High above the meatpacking district, the well-appointed Cabanas lounge sits atop the extremely cool Maritime Hotel. If you’ve ever been to Amy Sacco’s other joints, Lot 61 and Bungalow 8, you’d have a fair idea of what to expect from this place. Keep in mind that IF you can get past the rigid door policy, you could enjoy your hefty drinks lounging on the sofas, but the name of the game here is to be seen in your finest.

Seventeen Magazine 60th Anniversary Party hosted by Katie Holmes

What do you do when you want to celebrate 60 years of success? Well you hold a blow out bash at one of the city's best nightclubs and have it hosted by one of young Hollywood's stars! This was the case on Wednesday September 23rd when Katie Holmes hosted an anniversary party at Marquee for Seventeen Magazine. JoonBug was there to capture this amazing event put together by Flying Television Celebrity Headquarters and Seventeen Magazine. We rubbed shoulders with Hilary Duff, Kwame Jackson from the Apprentice Season One, Bai Ling from the upcoming Star Wars movie, Adam from Average Joe, Drew Lachey (of 98 Degrees and now starring in RENT on Broadway), Chris Klein (Katie's fiance of course) and the who's who of nightlife. This was the perfect way to celebrate and we can't wait for another 60 years!

Velvet Revolver - Snitch 9/17/2004

For all you hard rock fans, Friday night at Snitch (on West 21st Street) would have been a dream come true. There was a rumor milling about Friday during the day that Velvet Revolver would play a surprise set at Snitch in Chelsea (they are part owners of course). So at about 1 am (after watching Scott Weiland, Duff and Slash throw back a few at the VIP table right next to us) they got up on stage and gave an amazing performance. The crowd went wild. They had just come from hanging out at a show at the Roseland where they watched fellow musicians James Brown, Wycelf, Lenny Kravitz, and Doors of the 21st Century perform and decided that they needed a practice set to get ready for their performance at the Roseland Saturday night. They played their hit “Fall to Pieces” and covered “I used to love her but I had to kill her”. This brand new Chelsea Rock n’ Roll Bar is getting off to an amazing start and we can’t wait to see what they have up their sleeve for the coming weeks. Check out the pictures we took...

(781) 231-5111

Venue Review: Avalon - Boston

Avalon
15 Lansdowne
Boston, MA 02215
(617) 262-2437
website

Without a doubt this is one of the biggest clubs in Boston. A top of the line sound system, Avalon draws a diverse crowd from Gay Nights to International Nights. More importantly, Avalon draws some of the best DJs on the planet (like Armand Van Helden, and the ubiquitous Paul Oakenfold) as well as culling some of the finest live acts and DJs in New England.

Here's what Citysearch and Digital City had to say.

Venue Review: Vela - New York City (NYC)

VELA
55 W. 21st Street (btwn 5th & 6th Aves)
New York, NYC 10010
(212) 675-8007
website

While the décor and the music at Vela are tropical, the menu offers up more than a few surprises. No matter how you look at it, the combination of Japanese and Brazilian cuisine is an odd idea, but Vela makes it work like chili peppers and limes. There are some wonderfully inventive dishes, and considering that Chelsea is rich with club life, Vela would be a great place to start off a long evening.

Here's what Digital City & Citysearch had to say about Vela.

Venue Review: Viscaya - New York City (NYC)

Viscaya
191 7th Ave (at 21st Street)
New York, NYC 10011
Phone: (212) 675-5980
website

One of Chelsea’s best lounges, Viscaya thrives on an exclusive atmosphere. The crowds lining up to get in tend to be young, well heeled, and trendy. Not only is the front door pretty tough to get past, there are also lines to get in the individual sections. The décor gets progressively warmer from the industrial front area to the warm-hued VIP bottle service only room (complete with individual sound systems and a false fireplace), but chances are you’ll be doing more people watching than anything else.

For more information, here's what Citysearch and Digital City had to say.

Venue Review: Transit - Chicago

Transit
1431 W Lake St
Chicago, IL 60607
Phone: (312) 559-1212

As far as uber-clubs go, Transit is pretty big, and well defined areas make it easy to zero in one what you’re looking for. The energy is pretty strong on the main dance floor, and the decked out VIP Blue Room caters to the table service set with a laid back chillout vibe. The Mezzanine lounge offers R&B, and even though the Light Bar is in the back, it’s still fairly visible, and draws the glam crowds.

Here's what Digital City and Citysearch had to say about Transit.
